Clean Up Australia Day 2014
|
On Sunday 2/3/14 Scout Leader Yowie led a courageous and keen bunch of Scouts and Cubs Scouts, friends and parents through the streets and laneways of Lismore for "Clean Up Australia Day". We picked up all that we found, but what was great was that we got to go to an art gallery at the same time as cleaning up - how? Well, there is an Art Gallery in the back alley's of Lismore CBD (called the Back Alley Gallery incidentally) - and you should see it because there is a lot of great art there. Have look at a few photos of it in the slide show.

On the way we analysed the rubbish we found, and the places where it was. Result of our survey? That actually there wasn't a lot of rubbish left by individuals - congratulations Lismore! More, we think, was the fault of businesses; but far and beyond other rubbish found was the number of cigarette butts. This was surprising as Lismore CBD has a "No-Smoking" policy. The message? Please don't smoke in the CBD, as you are polluting the air for everyone, but if you do, "Bin Your Butts!"
Thanks to all who could make it - you all did a fantastic job!

Grey Wolf Beach Walk
On Sunday 23rd February, Gary Paul led a group of 5 cubs from Chinaman's beach down to Goanna headland and back for his Grey Wolf walk. Despite windy weather and stinging sand, the cubs had a great time and learned a lot about the wildlife of Chinman's Beach.

Founder's Day Visit to Casino
Well tonight, for Founder's Day, we went to Casino to visit the Mafeking Lamp, which incidentally has Baden-Powell;s name inscribed on it. While there, pod told the Scouts, Joeys and Cubs about the siege and how B-P's experience there, where teenage boys were used as a brigade of helpers, so that all the adult men could be on the defense team, helped inspire him to start Scouts. Then we drove out to the MIni Rail where three separate trains were waiting to take us to the other side of the park. Once there we visited the Rail Museum, and played a minefield challenge. See a few photos below.
Bring a Friend to the Birdwing Butterfly Park
11/02/2014
This afternoon, 54 Cubs, Joeys, friends, leaders, parents, siblings and a few scouts (phew!) joined our "Bring a Friend" Walk to the Birdwing Butterfly Park in Goonellabah. Cubs and Joeys, (with the help of Scouts Nick, Liam and Liz), had to find treasures of nature - like leaves of particular shapes, or seeds or feathers, or count things like bridges passed or trees in a plantation. The Cubs worked in their sixes, and the Joeys in their mob, to try to find as many of the items as they could. After some walking, we spread out for a game of "Octopus" (thanks Liam, great game!), and then moved on to building cubbies out of whatever could be found. I hope someone got some photos because they were wonderful! Final points were tallied, including points for full uniform, proper shoes, water bottle and snack. The Creepers earned 1 Juicy Bone, the French Pandas 2, and the Crazy Possum...( what were they called?) earned three juicy bones to add to their collections. Well done Cubs, Joeys, Scouts and leaders. Thanks to all the parents and siblings for coming along and making it a fun night. Thanks also to Lismore City Council and Landcare for taking care of this beautiful park.
